New Drowning Prevention Campaign

September 1, 2019

Social Marketing Hawaii is happy to announce it will be working on a new website for a drowning prevention campaign by the State of Hawaii Department of Health’s EMS & Injury Prevention System Branch. Research indicates drowning is the leading cause of death for non-residents in Hawaii, with 89% of these fatal injuries occurring in the ocean. This leads to the conclusion that more needs to be done to educate visitors on effective ocean safety behavior through reaching them in places where they are likely to obtain information about their Hawaii vacation.

The campaign’s first step will be to develop a comprehensive website that will house all ocean safety information for west-bound visitors. The campaign website is expected in late 2018.
